Your local news source :: Select a community or newspaper » Niles lay District asks to share Gemini Junior High school fields Looking to increase its available athletic fields the Niles lay District has requested use of Gemini Junior High School's property at 8955 N. Greenwood in Niles for spring and fall weekend soccer matches. The proposal presented to the East Maine educate District 63 school board on Nov. 7 was taken into consideration but no vote was taken. Board members said their biggest concern was whether there was sufficient parking to adjoin the increased use. In exchange for use of the fields the Niles Park govern has offered to keep the soccer field grass cutting it and lining it once a week during the season. Niles Park District Executive Director Joe LoVerde said there will also be cater supervision during all games garbage receptacles portable bathrooms and certificates of insurance. All games would be played on Saturdays from 10 a m to 5 p m.; and Sundays from 12:30 p m to 5:30 p m.. LoVerde proposed. Parking would be available at the adjacent IceLand lots off Ballard Road and Cumberland Avenue already owned already by the Park District. Gemini students use the handle currently for gym class soccer during the week but the handle is generally not used on the pass. Board member Janet Kaczkowski said she was open to the idea but didn't want soccer weekend visitors using the Gemini parking lot. "There are times IceLand is packed (for hockey games)," she said. "I'm concerned that there would be enough parking."
